Meeting Ilana in her studio is like a breath of fresh air and a feeling of positive energy. The large art sculptures are free standing or hanging on the walls, and floating all around the gallery. Her materials and her methods melt and fuse together. The art forms of sculptures and painting, float into one another. Ilana calls it SCULPAINTING, painting in space and sculpting with colors. Three dimensional pieces full of colorful light, where shapes and shades grow together, floating and flying like heavenly bodies. Ilana works with plexiglass, fiberglass, acrylic and crystal materials. She intertwines synthetic with organic elements, leaves and twigs, sand and shell, with inorganic elements, such as crystal and precious stones, copper, silver and gold. Ilana Lilienthal was born and raised in Tel-Aviv, Israel. After serving 2 years in the Israeli Army, she majored in art history and bible studies in the Tel-Aviv University, and had completed another degree in social work at the Hebrew University. She also went to the Parson's School of Design in New York. She is a well educated young lady and fluent in Hebrew, English and German. For more than 20 years she has had solo and group shows all over the world. From Israeli Museums and the Deutches Museums in Germany, to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The list is long. Ilana is married to Alex Brodt, she says: "My husband is my teacher, he helps me to grow each day with inspiration for my artwork". I met Alex and their 3 children, Sagi, Shiran and Orel, and was impressed by the way Ilana combined a family with art, a well rounded artist and homemaker. I ask Ilana about her special art form, and she replies: "The sculptures depict luminous energy, the plastic materials are infused with shinning fluorescent paints. The results are floating reliefs and flying sculptures full of kinetic radiance. I replaced canvas and oils, clay and stones, with more modern media; luminous and transparent materials invented in our technological age. Sculpting and painting fused in futuristic experimentation with synthetic materials. A new art form that leads into the twenty first century." Also spracht Lilienthal… I could feel spiritual powers from the art pieces, the luminous energy from them enlightening the mind, healing the heart and liberating the soul. Her work is being purchased by people around the world who admire her art form and the influence it has on them from viewing the sculptures. My outlook on the arts has changed since I was preevy to the different sculptures she has done through out the years. Thank you Ilana, we are looking forward for more innovative art work from you, that will inspire us all.
